DKFD supports Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation
Deltech Kiln and Furnace Design was pleased to be able to contribute financial support to the Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation (CGIF), established by the American Ceramic Society. DKFD is a corporate partner of the American Ceramic Society and a member of the Nuclear and Environmental Technology Division.
The mission of CGIF is to attract young people to careers in ceramic and glass science and engineering. With both financial and administrative support and assistance from the Society, they fund materials science classroom kits for middle and secondary school classrooms, grants for educators for projects that further the foundation’s mission, the activities of the President’s Council of Student Advisors (PCSA), materials science camps for students and for teachers, travel and registration fees to allow graduate and undergraduate students to attend conferences, and participation in the exposition at the USA Science and Engineering Festival.
New developments include working with local Keramos chapters – groups of young ceramic and glass professionals who volunteer their time and efforts to further the work of CGIF. At the suggestion of then president of ACerS Bill Lee, in 2017 the board voted to provide assistance for some inter and intranational humanitarian projects that rely on student involvement, benefiting both the communities and the students.
Members of the foundation’s board include men and women from around the world, and all CGIF programs provide support worldwide. One of those members is Mary Stevenson, one of Deltech Kiln and Furnace Design, LLC’s co-owner/managers.
DKFD provided modest financial support earmarked for the purchase of materials science classroom kits for teachers whose schools are unable to afford them but are excited to introduce their students to glass and ceramic science.
